This week in Huntington Beach
The pier is a fitness festival this weekend.
Wristband: Wodapalooza SoCal Fri–Sun. Music down the coast: Ohana Fest at Doheny (Eddie Vedder Fri, Tyler Childers Sat, Pearl Jam Sun). Stay in town: Oktoberfest at Old World Saturday from 11am, or No Duh free on the sand at SeaLegs at 2pm. Do not expect a quiet pier plaza.
Picks
Wodapalooza SoCal — Fri–Sun, Huntington Beach Pier. Gymreapers fitness festival: competition, vendor village, live music. That plaza is an athlete floor, not a quiet beach day. Info: socal.wodapalooza.com.
Ohana Festival — Fri–Sun, Doheny State Beach, Dana Point (nearby). 10th anniversary. Pearl Jam Sunday. Gates noon. Tickets: ohanafest.com.
Oktoberfest Saturday — Sat from 11am, Old World Village. The local one. Daytime all ages; Saturday night 21+. Through Nov 8. Tickets: OktoberfestHB.com.
Dog-friendly
Huntington Dog Beach is the off-leash stretch (PCH between Goldenwest and Seapoint). Leash everywhere else. SeaLegs this weekend: sand, State Beach rules. Wodapalooza is not a dog day on the pier plaza. Tiki Beach Sunday morning: leash, crowded. Oktoberfest: ask the courtyard, skip the indoor rooms. More: Dogs.
Surf
NWS marine PZZ655 (Thu update): seas 2–3 ft, W ~2 ft @ 8s and SW ~2 ft @ 13s. Buoy 46253 ~2 ft, water ~73°F. No active beach-hazard statement at press time. Dawn is cleaner. Pier plaza is Wodapalooza Fri–Sun — surf Bolsa or well north. Surf & kite.
Afternoon kite · 1–6pm · north of the pier
Soft fill. NWS HB hourly: 5–15 mph W/SW in the window. Saturday 5pm is the peak (15 mph W). Marine: W 10–15 kt afternoons. Stay north of the pier and clear of Wodapalooza / Tiki Beach Sunday AM. Check Windfinder / WeatherFlow. Not a launch clearance.
Fishing · pier + Bolsa
Fish the afternoon low into the evening high (Thursday 4:20pm into 8:57pm; Saturday 5:31pm into 10:12pm). Perch, croaker, maybe mackerel if bait shows. Corbina at dusk on the sand — that is a license session. No CA license on the public pier. License on beach/surf, including Bolsa Chica.
Tides: NOAA 9410599 Santa Ana River entrance — closest harmonic station, proxy for the pier, ft MLLW, Pacific time.
