US Open is packed up. The town is itself again. Three free things, dogs on the sand, a calm surf line, a kite window if the thermal fills, and a decent afternoon bite on the pier.

Surf City Nights — Tue 4:30–8:30pm, Main Street, free. If you only go out once.
Plum Festival at Old World — Sat–Sun noon–8pm, free entry. German bands, cake. Park once.
Surfin’ Sundays + pier concert — Sun, Pier Plaza, free. Chair, water, 5pm band. Last August date.
Dog-friendly
Huntington Dog Beach is the off-leash stretch (PCH, 21st to Seapede). Leash on the rest of the city beach. Tuesday market: leash, skip the 7pm crush. Old World patio: often yes — ask. More: Dogs.
Surf
Late August pattern: often 2–4 ft, cleaner early, sea breeze after noon. Confirm a live report Thursday morning. Source: typical HB pattern until the Surf desk pastes NWS/buoy numbers. Surf & kite.
Afternoon kite · 1–6pm · north of the pier
Watch Windfinder and iKitesurf / WeatherFlow at the pier. If it is still single digits at 2pm, skip it. Gusts often 3–5pm when the thermal is on. Not a launch clearance. Stay well north of the surf pack.
Fishing · pier + Bolsa
Fish the afternoon low into the evening high (roughly 4–8pm). Perch, croaker, maybe mackerel if bait shows. Corbina at dusk on the sand — that is a license session. No CA license on the public pier. License on beach/surf, including Bolsa Chica.
