The email
Don’t overthink the weekend. Plums, the pier, and Tuesday on Main.
US Open is packed up. The town is itself again. Three free things, one loud German weekend, dogs on the sand, a calm surf line.
If you only go out once: Surf City Nights on Tuesday. Visitors: Plum Festival at Old World. Water: Surfin’ Sundays plus the 5pm pier concert.
Dog-friendly
Huntington Dog Beach is the off-leash stretch (PCH, 21st to Seapede). Leash on the rest of the city beach. Tuesday market: leash, skip the 7pm crush. Old World patio: often yes; ask. Full list on Dogs.
Surf
Late August pattern: often 2–4 ft, cleaner early. Confirm a live report Thursday morning. How we source it.
Kite · 1–6pm · north of the pier
Watch Windfinder / iKitesurf for the thermal. If it is still single digits at 2pm, skip it. Gusts often 3–5pm. Not a launch clearance. Kite desk.
Fishing
Fish the afternoon low into the evening high. Perch, croaker, maybe mackerel. No license on the public pier. License on the sand (Bolsa too). Tides: this week’s table (NOAA proxy station).
Food & drink
Tuesday stalls on Main. Plum cake at Old World. Patio = dog note in the same sentence.
Stays
Quiet week for rooms. Airshow is Oct 2–4 — that is the next stay paragraph that matters.
The rest
Old World 90s night Friday is not for strollers. Civic: nothing you must attend.
