A civic gallery, a surf-art room in the library, and a mural walk on Main.
The booths at Pier Plaza are the regular art in this town. The Art Center and the library museum are the indoor rooms. Murals you can walk without a ticket. This week’s fair dates or a reception — if they are worth leaving the house for — are in the events list and the Thursday email. Confirm hours.

2nd Floor
126 Main St · restaurant / bar with local work on the walls
Not a museum. A downtown room that hangs local pieces for sale while you eat. Fine if you are already on Main. Do not treat it as the Art Center.

Surf City Artisan Fair
Pier Plaza · Main Street & PCH · Fridays and select weekends · about 10am–5pm (often 10–6 in summer) · hbdowntown.com/scaf · @hbdowntownusa
This is the art most people actually see in HB: tents on the plaza at the foot of the pier. Painters, prints, jewelry, pottery, photos — Downtown asks vendors to make or design most of what they sell. Year-round, not every single weekend. Check the BID calendar before you promise cousins. Walk-through is free; parking is not. Same plaza as the Sunday pier concerts. Tuesday Main Street is a different fair (Surf City Nights).

Downtown public art
Pier to fifth-block Main · city collection of 40+ pieces
Self-guided. Start at the pier: The Ultimate Challenge (the bronze surfer). Then Main: Jack’s Surfboards murals, Avila’s El Ranchito mural, the old International Surfing Museum mural (Donald MacDonald, 1996), Sunset Wave sculpture. City map: huntingtonbeachca.gov public art. Visit HB also publishes a downtown art-tour list. This is a walk, not a gallery hop.

Surf City Nights makers
Every Tuesday · Main Street · about 4:30–8:30pm
Street-fair craft, not a white-wall opening. Fine with a beer. Details on the markets page.
On now (late Aug / Sep 2026)
Artisan Fair was on Pier Plaza Aug 28–30; Downtown posts the next Fridays/weekends on @hbdowntownusa. Art Center fiber show and Make it Home through late October. Banner competition on the building through Sep 11. GWC reception Sep 18. Thursday email will flag a booth weekend or a reception when it is the reason to go out.
Classes: Art Center through HBSands.org.
